This drink received the name of “steinhaeger” because of the city where it was created - Steinhagen -, located next to the Teutoburger Forest, in the region of Ravensburg, Westfalia, state of Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany.
One of the basic producing processes of steinhaeger is the fermentation using berries of juniper and then proceeding with the distillation, resulting in a colorless drink with pleasant flavor and aroma.
It can be served straight, ice-cold, or in the traditional Brazilian Caipirinha, with lemon juice, sugar and ice cubes. Another way of having it is the traditional drink “Submarine”: pour a small glass of 50ml of steinhaeger into a glass of beer.
The beer absorbs the aroma and flavor of steinhaeger and liberates them slowly, making this a pleasant and harmonic mixture and also giving digestive properties to the drink.
